Our Story

Founded in 1979 by Billy and Sue Ryals,

B & S Equipment Co., Inc. began as a land-based backhoe services company. Today, it has evolved into a certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) that provides turnkey pipeline, construction, and integrity maintenance services, specializing in challenging terrains such as marshy wetlands, dry land, and mountainous regions. B & S Equipment proudly serves clients across the U.S., meeting the unique demands of diverse environments with precision and reliability.

It is the goal of our leadership to build a strong company on a foundation of trust and integrity. This leadership is passionate about honoring the commitment to our team and clients, surrounding ourselves with good people and continuously looking for ways to improve our business. By putting our faith in God, the leadership of B&S is confident in their safe and successful future.

About our leaders

  • Sue Ryals

    Managing Partner, President and Founder of B&S Equipment Inc. Co.

    Sue has been President/Owner since the incorporation of B&S Equipment in 1982. Wife and partner of William C. Ryals, Jr.; their vision was of impeccable service in the construction industry.

    Predominantly a land-based organization, Sue continued their vision, after the passing of William (Billy) in 2002 with the addition of amphibious & Marine assets to become turnkey operation for her client's needs. With her vision B&S Equipment has become one of the most successful Amphibious & Marine contractors in the industry.

    Sue maintains multiple certifications as a WBE (Woman owned business) and WOSB (Woman owned small business).

    Sue resides on the waterfront in Lafitte, LA. She enjoys spending time with her 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Sue's hobbies include gardening, fishing, and enjoying tranquility.

  • Scott Ryals

    Scott Ryals is the President of B&S Equipment, Inc., a leading provider of specialty marine and marsh services for the oil and gas industry.

    As the son of company founders Billy and Sue Ryals, Scott has been involved in the business since it started in 1979. He officially joined the team full-time in 1988, shortly after finishing high school. Under the mentorship of his father, Scott developed a deep understanding of the industry and a passion for the family business.

    In 1992, Scott enlisted in the Marine Reserves, where he served his country while continuing his work at B&S Equipment. Following the tragic news of the terminal illness of his father in 2001, Scott made the decision to leave the Marine Reserves and fully dedicate himself to the family business. This marked the beginning of a transformative era for B&S Equipment, as Scott introduced the company’s first marsh buggy and expanded its services to the oil and gas utility sector. His forward-thinking leadership positioned B&S as a pioneer in marine and marsh services. B&S Equipment Inc. Co. quickly took off as one of the industry’s leading contractors, while building a state-of-the-art fleet of marine and marsh equipment. The company stands for a reputation of excellence.

    In 2022, Scott partnered with Tyler Hunt and Laurie Bench to embark on the next big endeavor for B&S Equipment, Inc. Co. Together, they combined the expertise of B&S Equipment and the newly established B&S Pipeline to create a comprehensive turnkey service. By joining B&S Equipment’s industry-leading marine and marsh capabilities together with B&S Pipeline’s expertise in pipeline integrity, maintenance, and construction; we are now positioned to provide services for highly technical and diverse project needs.

    Scott resides in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, with his wife Tiffany and their sons, Scotty and Brennan. He values family time and enjoys outdoor activities with his boys, often sharing his knowledge of business and entrepreneurship.

    When asked what about his business keeps him going Scott said he lives by his father’s motto, “choose a career path you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

  • Laurie Bench

    Managing Partner, President of B&S Integrity LLC

    Laurie Bench partnered with B&S Equipment, Co. Inc. in February of 2022 and along with existing partner’s established B&S Pipeline, adding turnkey pipeline integrity, maintenance, and construction services to the B&S umbrella.

    In 1996 Laurie worked as a corporate legal assistant, for a law firm specializing in Corporate Law. In 1998 Laurie was employed by one of the leading gas transmission companies, Texas Eastern / Spectra Energy, where she was a contract analyst, and worked in contract law overseeing contract conformance and contract management. She was later promoted to a leadership position at Spectra Energy, overseeing the contract management department, working alongside operations, and engineering. In 2009 Laurie accepted a position as the Director of Business Development and HR recruiting for CECO Pipeline Services. In 2012 Laurie joined STRIKE, LLC. Company as a Strategic Account Manager in the Business Development department. Laurie was promoted to Division Manager and later Vice President of Operations. There she was responsible for leading a diverse group of 200+ team members, including project managers, estimators, project controls, and field superintendents. Laurie’s team safely and successfully executed an excess of 75MM annually of pipeline and facility, integrity maintenance and small capital projects for over 10 years. Laurie and her team received the Diamond Excellence of Safety award 8 out of the 10 years.

    Laurie is certified and degreed as follows: Associate of Applied Science Legal Support & Services, Paralegal, Lee College, BS in Business Administration in Management, studied at UOP and University of Houston Clear Lake, SHRM HR Certification at Rice University.

    Laurie is a lifelong resident of Beach City, Texas, where she resides with her husband, Jody of 20 years. They have (3) sons, Jaxon, Lane, Hayden, and his wife Audrey. Laurie enjoys spending her time with family and friends.

    When asked what makes a great leader Laurie said “Part of being a leader is standing by your word and earning the trust of those you work with and serve. I genuinely believe we are building the dream team. We are working to surround ourselves with the best in the industry and to maintain their trust and loyalty by giving back, when you do this, the rest is easy. Taking care of our employees and clients is our priority, if you take care of your team, they will take care of the rest.”

  • Tyler Hunt

    Managing Partner, Vice President of B&S Integrity LLC

    Tyler Hunt partnered with B&S Equipment, Co., Inc. in February 2022 and along with existing partner’s established B&S Pipeline, adding turnkey pipeline integrity, maintenance, and construction to the B&S umbrella.

    Prior to joining B&S, Tyler gained construction knowledge and became familiar with industry Governing bodies such as OSHA and DOT from 2003 – 2005 where he worked hands on for Verizon and AT&T, overseeing the construction and installation of towers ranging from 100 – 440ft in height. Tyler also has DOT experience, as he was a DOT haul truck driver from 2005 – 2008. From 2009 – 2017 Tyler gained several years of experience as a project manager supporting the industry leading operating and transmission companies, including El Paso, Kinder Morgan, and Spectra Energy / Enbridge. In 2017 Tyler transitioned from the operator side of the industry and joined the contractor side of the business as the Manger of Operations with STRIKE, LLC. While there he was responsible for managing 20 plus integrity, maintenance and construction crews. Tyler managed the safe and successful execution of submittals, and through final execution of property delivery.

    Tyler is also certified in 3D piping design and modeling.

    Tyler is a resident of Huffman, Texas where he lives with his wife, Lena and 2 boys, Cooper, and Tanner. He is also a USCG licensed captain and FAA Pilot.

    When asked what makes B&S pipeline stand out above its competitors Tyler said “Being genuine and caring about the services you provide is key to being successful. Being an industry leading contractor is not just a goal, it’s a must. We do this by continuously looking for ways to improve safety, production, and cost. We pride ourselves in being transparent and passing these efficiencies along to our clients.”

  • Wendell Wilson

    Director of Business Development

    Wendell Wilson became our Director of Business Development in June 2022. Mr. Wilson has over two decades of operations, construction, inspection and business development experience within the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining B & S Pipeline, Mr. Wilson was responsible for daily operations, inspection, and public awareness with Denbury Resources from 2004 to 2008 and Williams-Transco from 2008 to 2012. From 2012 to 2022, Mr. Wilson was employed by the pipeline construction company, STRIKE, LLC. As a member of STRIKE’s corporate business development team, Mr. Wilson was responsible for managing the onboarding process of new accounts, building and maintaining client relationships, targeting potential acquisitions, prioritizing accounts, and representing the company within various other roles. Mr. Wilson has also served on various advisory boards, including the Oil & Gas-Process Technology Program at Southwest Mississippi Junior College and the Pike-Amite Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF).

    Wendell is a resident of the Auburn Community of Mississippi where he resides with Maureen, his wife of 22-years, his son Tanner and daughter Maggie. Wendell enjoys hunting, attending baseball games, finding arrowheads on his family farm and is an avid collector of baseball and football cards.

    When asked how B&S proposes to grow and add new clients in a safe and successful manner, Wendell said “Being successful within this industry is driven by being SAFE. Having a proven safety culture is paramount and hugely responsible for the day-to-day success of each employee, each crew and the company as a whole. Strategic growth of the company comes with earning each and every client’s trust, and that every one of our guys are invested into that mindset.”

  • Tracey Ryals-Frazier

    Controller of B&S Equipment Inc., Co.

    Tracey joined the family construction company, B&S Equipment Inc., Co. in 1995. She has overseen the heavy hauling division, contracts, human resources, insurance and finance.

    Tracey's responsibilities include compliance, certification maintenance and financial decisions. An integral part of her education was her participation in the 10,000 Small business programs, a scholarship based joint initiative, funded by Goldman Sachs and Warren Buffet.

    Tracey resides in Harvey with her husband, Christopher, of 31 years and is a mother to 2 children, and grandmother to 1 granddaughter. Tracey's hobbies include community events, reading and dance.
